Tiny Tiger, to scale.....

I have been asked to include some kind of real world reference to help give an idea of the scale of the Tiger 1 tank, with base....

So either I have built and painted a matchbox big enough to hold shoes.....
.......or I built a really tiny tank.....

Hopefully that helps put the size into some kind of perspective....

Tiny Tiger and a Petite Panzer

So, after a bit of encouragement from some friends, I decided to base the Tiger 1 and am working on a Panzer III with a base too.

Bases are Jarrah, from Michael Tabone of Base44 and really nifty too, and quite reasonable in price. Yep, mail order.

First, I rigged up a impromptu photo rig....

2 clothes pegs hook my dark blue windcheater onto my work lamps.

Then set the camera for macro work, and take the following photos..... Tiger 1 first...

Overhead view of composition

The hero pose

Thick grass for this scale...the grass extends past the lower track run

Bit subtle, however the grass is compressed where the treads have been

'You cant see me, I'm hidden!.....'  not much to hide behind there.

Now that this one is based, it looks more at home, and I feel much happier for having completed it.

Now the Panzer III is nearly done, this is an experiment in elevations and static water.

While the elevation has worked, the tank is a bit too clean, and not fully integrated with the base. I'll be adding a N scale (1/150 scale)  as well as adding dust effects for the road and treads.

A working break from major projects.....

I'll admit to feeling a bit worn out by some of my sculpting projects, so I decided to have some quick and easy projects just to rest the brain.....

DML 1/144 Tiger 1

A little Tiger 1, stripped the paint off, redid the paint with an airbrush, and then picked out the details with a 10/0 brush. Went old school with the details, using a lead pencil, and restrained pin washes (brown ink) and very restrained dry-brushing..... I'll base this soon....

And I enjoyed the experience so much, I decided on some others....

Work in progress shots....

DML Panzer III Ausf C or D
A doing an early war panzer.... given the grey finish a slightly blue tint, I'll try some of that mapping as seen by MiG Productions users..... I replaced the injection moulded machine gun barrels with thin wire, and because the main cannon barrel snapped off due to my ham handed efforts, I replaced that with a approximate match of Evergreen Plastruct.... looking forward to basing this also.

Also on the bench (but not yet photographed)is an E-100 paper panzer....

I got a few N scale figures today, which is 1/150 scale, so I'll be using these to populate the vehicles as needed....

Some figures to populate a scene often help scale out and add life to a scene...
